For centuries the kingdom of Easthaven has been led by the Oracles, a series of women chosen by the Triple Goddesses to receive visions of the future. Sixteen years ago, twin Oracles were born to a family living in the slums of the Capitol city of Candra. When the previous Oracle passed away, and the twins' divine nature was revealed, the young girls were immediately taken to the Palace to be raised in the ways of the Twin Goddesses whom they are believed to embody, and soon they will come of age and take their place as the leaders of Eashaven. The whole country is abuzz--some with excitement and others with mutiny. It's time to see where everyone stands, as war still rages on the Western border...
Easthaven is entering a political conflict that's already causing tension.
When the twin Oracles were revealed, their council members joined the council of the past Oracle to create one large combined council. This body has ruled for the last five years, and as such have been able to push their own political agenda for all of that time. Now the old council are being forced to retire, and those who remain as council to the twins will have to accept that all decisions will ultimately be approved or vetoed by these sixteen-year-old girls. A few of them are bitter at the loss, while other more religious members are glad to see the true leaders finally come to power.
At the same time, the country has been fighting their neighbor to the West for decades; little is known about the enemy save for the fact that they are using magic-altered humans to fight against the Havenfolk's army. The High General has been leading the country's army for ten years now, after besting the man who formerly held the position in a fight to the death. All his soldiers look up to him, some more loyal to him than to their country or Goddess. The High General is more than aware of this, and rumors are already circulating about a hostile takeover.
There is also a small but growing group of people (men and women included) who are resentful that there are no Gods. They believe that there was once a Father God, the husband of the Mother Goddess, but that his worship was snuffed out during the rule of the first Oracle. This group functions in secret, always in fear of the Temple Inquisitors.
Most average people are more concerned about whether or not their children will develop magic, or if their family will be visited by the Temple Inquisition Force--but if things start to get out of hand in the palace, everyone will be forced to choose a side, and fast.
But first, it's time to celebrate!
The Twin Oracles' coming of age is going to be a festival for all. Already spiced wine and apples have been gathered, performers of all types are flocking to the capital city, and the market is filled with goods from the lands across the seas. It's going to be the party of a lifetime and everyone is invited, from nobles to commoners.
